TP 5: Sustainable materials for 4D printing

Principal Investigator: Dorothea Helmer

With the increasing spread of 3D and 4D printing technologies, the development of novel printable materials and printing processes becomes increasingly important. Here, a focus is on solutions to the problem of the sustainability of polymer materials. The degradability of the underlying polymer systems is crucial for sustainable production strategies and material systems. For numerous classic polymer systems and composites, sustainable filling materials or the use of biogenic or compostable polymers are the primary approach. In contrast to this, the aim of this project is the development and programming of materials based on lignin, a phenol-based biopolymer that is produced as a waste material in paper manufacturing.
